AN ANALYTICAL
DESCRIPTION
The poem dust of
snow is a short poem by Robert Frost but a strong piece that celebrates the
power of nature. This poem explains a moment of simple beauty. It clarifies
that the power of nature brings us moments of joy into our lives. Even during
the time of darkness also, it gives us clarity and happiness.
The
two agents of nature, the hemlock tree and the crow are considered as
inauspicious. They are the signifiers of misery and depression but we must not
take things for granted as in the poem both the hemlock tree and the crow act
as messenger of joy and happiness.
The
poem explains a moment of transformation. The speaker of the poem explains how
a crow’s sudden movement causes dusting of snow to fall from a hemlock tree
unexpectedly onto his shoulder. It changed the poet’s mood from sadness to
cheerful condition.
Here
in this poem, we don’t know how does the poet discover himself under the
hemlock tree and what causes the crow to shake the branch of it but the message
of the poem is clear that, negative agents of the nature also offer positivity.
The
poem is set in a scene where the poet finds himself under a hemlock tree. He is
in a bad mood. A crow on the branch of the hemlock tree causes dusting of snow
to fall on his shoulder. This small event of nature lifted his mood. It was a
fortunate stroke of serendipity. Here a small event of nature played a profound
impact on the outlook of the speaker. This event reminds us to appreciate the
beauty and wonder of the nature around us.
