Raven held in his great big beak,
A morsel
the Fox would go far to seek.
Difficult words: -

Looked up- stare
Held- past form of hold
Beak- the hard projecting part of bird’s face
Morsel- a tiny piece of food
In this first stanza of the poem, we see Mr. Raven, a black bird larger
than crow is sitting on a branch of a tree. On the other hand, Reynard a fox is
looking up at the Raven. He is interested in what the bird on the tree is
holding in its beak. In fact, the Raven has a tasty piece of food which the fox
really likes to have. He is eager for the food which is rare and hard to find.
He is sure to have it.
ଏକ ଚତୁର ବିଲୁଆ ଏବଂ କାଉ ସଦୃଶ ଦେଖାଯାଉଥିବା ଏକ ନିର୍ବୋଧ ପକ୍ଷୀ ର ଏଇ କବିତା ନୈତିକ
ଶିକ୍ଷା ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିଥାଏ । କବିତା ଟି ରେ କାଉ ସଦୃଶ ଦୃଶ୍ୟମାନ ହେଉଥିବା ପକ୍ଷୀ ର ଥୁଣ୍ଟ ରେ
ସ୍ଵାଦ ଭରା କୌଣସି ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା କୁ ଦେଖି ଚତୁର ବିଲୁଆ ବୁଦ୍ଧି ପ୍ରୟୋଗ କରି ତାକୁ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ
କରିବା ପାଇଁ ପ୍ରୟାସ କରି ସଫଳ ହୁଏ ।
ପକ୍ଷୀ ଟି ବୃକ୍ଷ ଡାଳ ରେ ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା କୁ ଥୁଣ୍ଟ ରେ ଧରି ବସିଥିବା ଅବସ୍ଥା ରେ ବିଲୁଆ
ର ଦୃଷ୍ଟି ଗୋଚର ହୋଇଛି । ଏହା ଏକ ସ୍ଵାଦ ଭରା ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା ବୋଲି ବୁଲୁଆ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ହୋଇଛି । ନିଜର
ବୁଦ୍ଧି ପ୍ରୟୋଗ କରି ଉକ୍ତ ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା କୁ ପ୍ରାପ୍ତ କରିପାରିବ ବୋଲି ସେ ନିଶ୍ଚିତ ହୁଏ ।
ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା ର ମୋହ ତା’ ଭିତରେ ଅଭେଦ୍ୟ ଯୋଜନା ସୃଷ୍ଟି କରେ ।
Said the
Fox, in admiring tones: “My word!
Sir
Raven, you are a handsome bird.
Such
feathers! If you would only sing,
The birds of these woods would call you
King.”
Difficult words: -
Admiring- praising
Handsome- good looking
Feathers- plumes that cover the body of birds
Wood- forest
Reynard, the fox is applying his idea to flatter the bird on the tree
Mr. Raven. The fox is admiring the crow like bird. He is speaking that Raven is
really looking handsome with his black feathers. He says that, everyone in the
forest will recognize him as the King of Birds if only he sings. Here the fox
being a cleverer animal trying to make the bird feel proud in order to fulfil
his intention.
ମନ ମଧ୍ୟ ରେ ଚିନ୍ତା କରିଥିବା ଯୋଜନା କୁ ଚତୁର ବିଲୁଆ ଫଳବତୀ କରିବା
ପୂର୍ବରୁ ପକ୍ଷୀ ଟି କୁ ପ୍ରଶଂସା କରି ତା ହୃଦୟ ଜିଣିବାକୁ
ଅଭିନବ ଉପାୟ କୁ ବ୍ୟବହାର କରିବସେ । ପ୍ରଶଂସା ପୂର୍ବକ ତୁମେ ଅତ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସୁନ୍ଦର ଓ ତୁମ କଳା ରଙ୍ଗର
ପର ମଧ୍ୟ ଖୁବ ଆକର୍ଷଣୀୟ ବୋଲି ନିଜ ସ୍ଥିରୀକୃତ ଯୋଜନା ମଧ୍ୟରେ ପକ୍ଷୀ ଟି କୁ ସଫଳତା ର ସହିତ କରାୟତ
କରିଥାଏ ।
The
Raven, who did not see the joke,
Forgot
that his voice was just a croak.
He
opened his beak, in his foolish pride–
And down
fell the morsel the Fox had eyed.
Difficult words: -
Joke- funny talk
Croak- unpleasant voice
The bird on the tree Raven did not realize that the suggestion of the
fox was simply a trick. He was caught up in his own pride. Though his voice was
just a crook he forgot it and began to sing. Due to this foolish action, the
tasty morsel fell out of his beak and it was what the fox exactly wanted.
ବିଲୁଆ ର କୌଶଳ ଭରା ପରାମର୍ଶ କୁ ଭେଦ କରି ନ ପାରି ମନ ମଧ୍ୟ ରେ ଫୁଲି ଉଠିଥିବା ପକ୍ଷୀ ଟି ନିଜ ର ସ୍ଵର ଜମା ରୁ ସଙ୍ଗୀତ ପ୍ରଦାନ କରିପାରିବ ନାହିଁ ବୋଲି ମନେପକେଇ ନ ପାରି ଭାବାବେଗ ରେ ମନୋନିବେଶ କରି ଗାନ କରିବାକୁ ଉତ୍ସୁକ ହୋଇବସେ ଓ ଏହି ନିର୍ବୋଧତା ପାଇଁ ତା’ ଥୁଣ୍ଟ ରେ ଥିବା ଖାଦ୍ୟ ଟୁକୁଡା କୁ ତାକୁ ହାରିବାକୁ ହୁଏ ।

Ignore sweet words that make you glow.
Pride, my friend, is rather unwise;
I’m sure this teaching is quite a surprise.”

Difficult words: -
Ignore- refuse to take notice
Glow- happy
Unwise- foolish
The fox under the tree who was looking up at the Raven laughed and said
not to be fooled by flattering words. Relying on foolish thing is unwise. It
was a lesson to Raven not to be easily swayed by flattering words that make him
feel good.

କରିବସେ । କାହାର କୌଣସି ମିଠା କଥା ରେ ନ ପଡି ନିଜ କଥା କୁ ଗୁରୁତ୍ଵ ଦେବା କୁ ସିଦ୍ଧାନ୍ତ ନିଏ
। ବିଲୁଆ ତାକୁ ଉପଯୁକ୍ତ ଶିକ୍ଷା ଦେଇଯାଇଛି ବୋଲି ପକ୍ଷୀ ଟି ଝୁରି ହେବାକୁ କୁ ବାଧ୍ୟ ହୁଏ ।
